The British Media

The thing that struck me was the UK’s obsession with the gossip behind the football, and as a player you want to be known for the back page, not for the front page. And it was those front page stories that surprised me. I realised quickly how powerful the media is here. In Holland we have about two or three sports papers and a few TV stations that cover the League. Here, you have about eight newspapers and radio and then you have about four or five TV stations covering 24 hours a day; so the media coverage here is a lot bigger. But I have to tell you that I have been quite pleased with the media in the sense that the quiz’s WHAT IS THIS? was based on probably not performing well on the day. Apart from that, you know I have had a good relationship with the media and I have enjoyed every bit of it.
